Guest Referee at Hillfoots 1st XV Training!

With our match against Panmure RFC called off, the coaching team decided to have a training session for the 1st XV. The initial training was rounded off with a game of sevens, with a guest referee! Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, that is Wee Norrie in his ‘birthday suit’ kindly bought for him by Big Norrie! Needless to say, the old and bold did not spend too long on the pitch before they retired upstairs to continue the birthday celebrations!

Glenrothes 2nd xv 14: Hillfoots Rams – 41

On Saturday the Rams travelled to Carlton Park to face old rivals Glenrothes RFC.  From the outset it was clear that the Glenrothes game plan was to play a tight game using their big experienced pack to gain ground with the Hillfoots lads trying to play in a more expansive style.  A pattern evolved with Glenrothes grinding their way up the pitch, with a series of short plays from their big forwards, these plays gave the Rams defence a real workout. Although conceding territory, the Rams tackling was strong and the turnovers won gave the Rams quick backline the chance to counter attack. This resulted in 3 long range tries from Euan Jamieson and Alex Cameron(2) to 1 converted try from Glenrothes.

Half time Glenrothes 7: Hillfoots Rams 15.

The second half continued in a similar vein and Glenrothes scored another converted try from close range. With their lead cut to 1 point, the Rams really upped the pace of the game and were rewarded with tries from Callum Murray, David Harvey(2) and Cammy Murray. Place kicker for the day John Ferguson, landed 3 fine conversions. The match ended with Hillfoots looking the more comfortable of the two teams and the final score being a fair reflection on the fitness and ambition of the Rams players.
It was not a perfect performance by any means and there is still a lot to work on, but there are many positives to take into next week when the Rams welcome Stirling County RFC to Tillicoultry.

Final Score Glenrothes 14 – Hillfoots Rams 41

The combined Hillfoots and Alva Academy School of Rugby S1 and S2 sides entertained Glenrothes on Sunday – the fantastic weather was matched by the enthusiasm of both sets of boys who combined to great effect. Hopefully we can maintain the numbers throughout the season and build on the match-day enthusiasm in training.
