Minis COACHES  & VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Calling all family members, to make our smooth operation run a bit smoother and to have a higher quality of coaching we need your help doing the odd task. The odd task can range from BBQ control, registers, strong lifters and efficient delegators!!

If you are unsure about the tasks above but know that you would be able to help in other ways please contact [email protected]

One of my main objectives this year is to create a parents’ committee at Hillfoots RFC. This committee will feedback to JP Ward regarding any parent issues to ideas which would benefit the club. The committee will also act as a bridge for parents between age groups to share vital rugby kit washing information or the best ways to get to ‘that club up north’. If you would like to be an ambassador of your son’s or daughter’s age group and be on the parents’ committee please contact me asap. I will also be asking a number of parents who I have worked with already to be the lead figures. But don’t worry there will be minimal work and lots of fun.

KIT

If you have ordered kit and have not collected it please contact me asap. If you would like to order kit please email me your son’s or daughter’s sizes asap. Currently our kit lady is away on holiday, so please bear with us. To speed up the process please send me all orders and I will try and accommodate your needs to the best of my Kit finding/ordering/selling abilities.

If you have any old Hillfoots kit (tops, shorts or boots) which are in good condition please can you donate it back to the club. The reason why I ask you to do this is very simple. When we have such an influx of new players who don’t have any rugby kit and want to play, we loan it to give them a chance to be part of the team where ‘everybody plays’. In order for this to work we rely on your generous donations.

Movember

This November a number of our coaches will be sporting some outrageous facial hair to support and raise awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

At the end of November there will be a vote for the best and worst moustache. It will cost £1 to vote and all money will go to charity via the Movember website.

If you want to get involved or find out more about this topic please visit:   http://uk.movember.com/?home

May the best tache win !!

Club News

Over the last few months HRFC committee has been hard at work securing local and nationwide funding for the regeneration of the club. As many of you are aware we plan to convert the two new partacabins into a gym and new changing room facilities. These facilities will hopefully be housing our new female rugby team for the start of next season.

So far Derek Paterson has managed to secure:

£2,000 from the EDF Burnfoot Hill Community Fund: this was set up to benefit the communities affected by the wind farm on Burnfoot Hill in the Ochils.  EDF are providing £30,000 a year for the next 25 years.

£2,000 from the Comrie Trust: this was set up to improve amenities and provide recreational facilities in Tillicoultry.

BT Community Connections: the club has won this regional competition to receive free broadband for a year, saving us in excess of £500.  As a result, our service was also upgraded and members are now able to access the fastest speeds available in the area for free while the club is open.

On behalf of all club members it gives me great pleasure to say ‘well-done Derek! Keep up the good work’.

If anyone knows of any grants or other funding available which the club could apply for, please contact Mike Power and I asap.  Hillfoots is always on lookout for new sponsors and club development opportunities especially with our 2020 initiative, which aims to build state of the art facilities for community and national use.

First XV Match report

Hillfoots 26-26 St Andrews Uni

After losing heavily on the first day of the season to the students, Hillfoots were looking for revenge and for 60 mins looked to have done their job. However, injuries to Gav Paterson and Jamie Murchie at crucial points in the game allowed the visitors back for a well-deserved draw.
The students kicked off downhill and soon had ‘Foots under pressure. The Uni forwards were recycling the ball well and after 5 minutes opened the scoring with an unconverted try in the corner. Spurred on by this, ‘Foots gradually pulled themselves back into the game. On a heavy pitch, scrummages were a bit of a lottery, however from a 5 metre scrum Hillfoots drove the students over for Gav Spowage to  touchdown. Hillfoots were in control now and 10 minutes later, after several pick and goes were held up, Keith Slade eventually touched down. With Gregor Manson converting both Hillfoots were starting to build a healthy lead. The students  were still looking dangerous at times, but ‘Foots defence was holding.
 Half time 14-5

The second half couldn’t have got off to a better start. Mike Slade collected the kick off before offloading to Gregor McIntosh who’s burst of pace took him clear of the visiting defence, with only the full back to beat, a neat inside pass to Jamie Murchie allowed to Murchie to finish off under the posts. Manson converted. From the kick off it was Scott Thompsons turn to burst clear of the students, however this time the bonus point try was prevented by a forward pass. Hillfoots were in total control at this stage and the visitors were looking down and out. Jamie Murchie claimed his second of the day after the forwards had driven deep into the Uni ’22.Quick hands and the ball was dotted down in the far corner. Hillfoots went looking for more, but with Murchie down injured the referee allowed the scrum to continue and St Andrews used their extra man to good use, touching down under the posts. Hillfoots began to lose their shape and two further scores saw the visitors draw level. With time running out, ‘Foots managed to keep St Andrews in their own half and play out the rest of the game in the opposition half.
