This year Hillfoots RFC would like to congratulate all those who took part in the club trials. There were excellent skills on show for the newly appointed selection committee to digest.
This year’s selection committee consisted of: John Higgins, Murray McKenzie (U15’s coaches) Fred Smith, Andy Peterson, (S1-S2), Mike Robins (Junior Coaching Coordinator), Mike Power (Junior Convener), Muff Scobbie, Colin Wright (U18’s coaches), JP Ward (Hillfoots Development Officer) and Craig Bolan (Clacks Development Officer). Craig has just recently moved districts and has become Stirling’s Rugby Development officer. On behalf of Hillfoots RFC we would like to wish Craig all the best in the future. To select players Hillfoots RFC followed the Scottish Rugby Union selection criteria. The ‘Key National Themes’ focuses on four areas: hand catch, offload, ball presentation and individual tackle technique. All rugby players are strong in at least one of the areas. However in compliance with the SRU KNT we only selected players who displayed strong technique & understanding in all areas. The reason why the selection committee was created was to ensure the process was fair & gave every player an equal opportunity to be selected.
There were many positives from this selection process. The selection committee was very impressed with the skills on show. However all the participants still have a lot of development to go before they can step out onto Murrayfield!
The Selection Committee is proud to announce players nominated for trial camps.
U 14’s
David Harvey, Martin McNee & Cailean Baird-Chalmers
U 15’s
Niall McKenzie & Kirk Higgins
The club wishes the lads all the best with the next step. If anyone would like any feedback on why they were or were not chosen please get in touch with me asap. For all those lads that were not selected please do not worry there will be opportunities next season to be involved in the district set up. To give everyone an even better opportunity there will be extra training sessions on a Monday evening at the club. These sessions will focus on the KNT & will be starting up in next few weeks .
A big thank you goes out to all those who were involved in this process
Kind regards
JP Ward
