Hillfoots retained the Bob Marfleet torphy with an emphatic 7 tries to 3 victory over McLaren.
‘Foots kicked off uphill with the breeze behind them. Hillfoots started well but it was obvious that McLaren weren’t there just to make up the numbers! Hillfoots gradually took control of the game and their offloading game was causing the visitors all sorts of problems. Kenneth McVey was first on the scoresheet, quickly followed by David Cree. McLaren gradually pulled themselves back in the game and reduced the deficit with an opportunist score to the left of the posts. ‘Foots finished the half the stronger but failed to add to their tally.

Playing downhill Hillfoots set about the visitors and soon extended their lead. Andrew Hamilton and David McCulloch were next on the scoresheet, quickly followed by Kevin Aitken and Alexander Cameron. Andrew Hamilton completed Hillfoots scoring. The visitors weren’t finished and had the last word, scoring 2 converted tries.
Hillfoots 1st XV & 2nd XV travel through to Royal High Cougars next week for their final warm up match before the leagues get underway on 1 September.
