Hillfoots 33-3

Hillfoots maintained their unbeaten run in the legue with a comfortable win over Madras.On a heavy pitch, Foots never quite got going but were still too strong for the visitors. Kicking off downhill, Hillfoots were on the scoreboard after a minute. A loose clearance kick was collected by Alex Cameron. His pace took him past the defence and into the ’22 before off loading to Gavin Paterson who strolled in under the posts.The expected avalanche of tries didn’t follow as Hillfoots struggled to put any decent phases of rugby together. Madras reduced the deficit with a penalty after ‘Foots strayed offside at a ruck. 2 tries in quick succession settled Hillfoots nerves. First Gregor Mcintosh finished off a neat handling move before Sandy Penman powered over the line after good lineout play took Hillfoots up to the Madras line. The muddy conditions were making handling difficult and poor ball retention was costing ‘Foots several try scoring oppurtunities. With half time approaching the back three combined to secure the bonus point. Another loose kick was collected by Cameron who set off across the park, with the defence closing in, a neat chip over the top found Kenny Paterson. The winger cut inside before offloading to Grant Carmichael. The fullback still had work to do but his pace was more than enough to go over in the corner. Gregor Manson kicked three conversions.
Half time 26-3
The second half started well with ‘Foots pushing to add to their tally. Five minutes in Penman collected his second of the day finishing off a move that had started in ‘Foots own half. Manson converted from wide out. The game stagnated after this with Hillfoots making too many unforced errors. Madras came more into the game but could not breach a stubborn Hillfoots defence. Hillfoots used their bench to freshen things up but even this failed to spark some life into the game.
