Last Weekend in Review

Saturday 21 October was a bumper day at Hillfoots RFC.  Not only did we have both teams playing at home, but Hillfoots also held a Sponsors’ Lunch to thank them for our support.  Having held a Charity Touch Tournament in the summer, we were delighted to pass over a cheque for over £2108 to Prostate Scotland to help them further their excellent work in raising awareness about the most common cancer in men in Scotland, with one in ten at risk.

Free Kit for the Club!

 The SRU have teamed up with Mitsubishi to offer Clubs rugby kit if their members book a test drive through our local dealer in Stirling. An hour of your time will get the Club £30 worth of kit! So if you have an hour spare in the next few weeks, please sign up through the link below!

6 Nations Away Matches need to be ordered this weekend!

The details for the 6 Nations ticket offer via the club are now available.

An email regarding the AWAY games has already gone out to everyone in the club who is a current member, and you need to reply to that immediately to secure any tickets for away games.

Note there is no limit to the amount of tickets we can apply for re the away games, but as ever no guarantee we will get everything requested.

A separate email regarding the HOME games, namely France and England this season, will go out to all club members. The excellent news is that we have once again secured a record allocation of tickets for these two games, of more than 60 tickets for each game, so fill your boots!!

Hillfoots 1st XV

On the field, a light drizzle meant that the ball was slippery – but both home teams were keen to demonstrate their prowess from the first whistle.  The 1st XV’s opponents, Morgan RFC could only field an under-strength team, but nevertheless they were determined to limit Hillfoots’ chances to cross the line.  Despite some ferocious tackling, ‘Foots handling skills and determination ensured a comfortable lead of 35-0 at the end of the first half.
After the break, Hillfoots continued to mount the pressure on Morgan with well-worked set piece from the scrums and line outs, which set the backs up for success.  With some great individual line breaks from the Hillfoot’s wingers speeding along the touchline to score and the forwards keeping relentless pressure on the Morgan forwards, a further five tries brought the final score to Hillfoots 1st XV 66 – Morgan 1st XV 0.  

This Saturday, the 1st XV take on Carnoustie HSFP away from home in what promises to be an exciting match.  It is a three horse race at the top of BT Caledonia Midlands Division 2, ‘Foots are holding onto the second position in the league, being chased by Carnoustie in third, but with Blairgowrie maintaining their three point lead over HiIlfoots building the pressure until their trip to Tilly Park in the New Year.

 

Hillfoots Rams – 57 v  Angus Development XV – 31

Hillfoots Rams welcomed Angus Development xv to Tillicoultry on Saturday. From the kick off the home side grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and for the first 20 minutes played some fantastic rugby which resulted in tries from Connor Wilson, Kenny Paterson, Dave Davidson, Callum McGee and Danny Ross. Grant Carmichael slotted 4 conversions. To their credit, the Angus lads did not let their heads go down and started to win some possession and began to mount some attacks of their own. Their efforts were rewarded with 2 tries of which 1 was converted. The Rams stepped up the pace again which saw Grant Carmichael cross the whitewash and Paterson score his 2nd try of the match. Carmichael converted both tries to take the home team into half time with a healthy 47 – 12 lead.
The second half was a much more even affair with the visitors proving that they could play a bit as well by scoring 3 fine tries of which 2 were converted. While the Rams play never managed to reach the dizzy heights of the first half, they kept the scoreboard ticking over with tries from Carmichael and Ross to secure a fine win.
The Rams travel to Anstruther next Saturday to face Waid Academy FP.

 

Another great turnout in the Tattie Holidays!

Another great Sunday at Hillfoots last weekend.  With our motto of ‘everyone plays’  – all our great players and coaches joining together for fun in the park.  we saw some outstanding concentration from our tigers lasting the duration of the session, as well as silky handling and footwork on display from our players across the board.

One tigers deserves a special mention to Robert Kelly exhibited model sportsmanship as he handed every player their tags back and even picked up the fallen ones to hand to the coaches – well done on your awesome hooker throw your dad would be very proud!

The youth players enjoyed some martial art pad work along with other drills and exercises.  This cross training is not only very fun but also great for improving their coordination, reaction time, timing as well as a trust for their partners they are working with  even promotes team work.  I am glad they love it as much as I do!

We train every Tuesday from 630 to 8pm.

Courses

If you would like to volunteer to help the rugby club, the following courses are available for you to get qualified either as a coach or a first aider.  If the course is not free, the club will pay you any fee that the SRU has charged, on successful completion of your course, if you can commit to help coach on a Sunday.
 
U18 & Senior Teams – ‘Developing Defence’, free:
Monday 30th October – Developing Defence – Stirling (Forthbank)
 
Coaching Micro Rugby, free:  
Sunday 5th November – Coaching Micro Rugby – Stirling County RFC

  • Hillkirk (Youth squad plays with Falkirk under this name!): Home v Glenrothes, with a 11am meet for an 11.30am kick off – support always appreciated!
