Saturday saw the 1st XV travel into deepest Fife to play Kirkcaldy at Beveridge Park! Despite the travel, ‘Foots came out with all guns blazing and demonstrated some beautiful rugby with great teamwork resulting in a convincing win 53-12.
Sunday was a glorious day for a massive game of tag rugby in the Park. What a fantastic autumnal background, so much so that even our local MSP re-tweeted my post proclaiming the beauty of the Ochils!
Lots on this weekend with a massive Club photo at 1pm on Saturday – we would love to see everyone in the Park in a Hillfoots shirt or hoodie by the Clubhouse for the biggest photo ever! Stay on to watch both the 1sts and Rams play at 3pm!

Kirkcaldy RFC was the venue for Hillfoots XV latest fixture, Saturday 14th Oct was the date and the weather was ideal for a good game of rugby. Hillfoots started the brighter of the two teams and it was evident that the away venue was not important for the Hillfoots, who came out guns blazing. Kirkcaldy tried to make an impact by using pick and go’s and some tactical kicking but Hillfoots managed to score 4 tries in the first half. At half time the score was 0-29 to Hillfoots.
After the break Hillfoots continued to build more pressure on the home team and scored a couple more tries with some well executed team play and some brilliant individual line breaks. However, in the second half Kirkcaldy managed to sustain some pressure and Hillfoots had to defend their 22 for short periods. The second half saw the home team score two tries. Hillfoots replied to each try by scoring their own well-worked tries which saw the visitors stretch their lead and the game finished 53-12. Hillfoots XV now prepare for a home game against Morgan and the the Hillfoots Rams also host the Angus Development team this weekend with a 3pm kick off.
It’s a big weekend with both teams at home and the Sponsor’s lunch taking place so come down to Tilly Park and support your local team and enjoy the afternoon’s entertainment.
Not sure who is more competitive,
the kids or the dads!
When its the holidays, with large numbers of kids and coaches away, we will play tag rugby to keep everyone’s skills honed! Our approach is that ‘Everyone plays’ whether you be the youngest P1, or the oldest grandparent! We started with a massive game of ‘Hawick Ball’ where you can throw the ball forward (easier for the P1s) and then we went into a proper game. The smaller kids are definitely at an advantage, they are like slippery little elvers and because they are so close to the ground, its hard for the adults to get their tags!
We then split for the youngest kids to play ‘sharks and fishes’ as well as their coaches Susan and Alan attempting to tire them out (not sure that we ever do despite our best efforts!). This meant that the older kids could play a more competitive game of tag. The grand finale was the kids against the dads – I am not sure who was more competitive!!
The Juniors are back in the park this Sunday while the Youth are playing as Hillkirk (with Falkirk) against Alloa with a 1130am kick off – any support is always welcome!
Courses
If you would like to volunteer to help the rugby club, the following courses are available for you to get qualified either as a coach or a first aider. If the course is not free, the club will pay you any fee that the SRU has charged, on successful completion of your course, if you can commit to help coach on a Sunday.
From 1pm – the Club Photo! If you have a Hillfoots shirt or hoodie, throw it on for the first ever mass club photo prior to our 1st XV and Rams playing!
1st XV: Home to Morgan, with a 3pm kick off.
Rams: Home to Angus Development, with a 3pm kick off.
Sunday:
Mass Tag Rugby! Meet up at 10am for more fun in the park. Mums, dads, sisters, grandparents – everyone plays!
Hillkirk (Youth squad plays with Falkirk under this name!): Away to Alloa, with a 11.30am kick off – support always appreciated in the local derby!
