Last Weekend in Review

What a busy weekend!  On Saturday, our firsts took on a strong Stirling County 3rd XV and a depleted Rams had a hard day at Howe of Fife.  Sadly the weather took a turn for the worse on Sunday and the Tigers training at home, Juniors playing away to McLaren and Youth playing with Falkirk against Kinross all got soaked to the skin!  Meanwhile, Eddie and I enjoyed the SRU Club Development Conference at Murrayfield – great to share ideas and best practice!

Hillfoots 1st XV

Saturday 23rd Sept was the date for one of the most anticipated games of the season for Hillfoots XV, as Stirling County 3’s were the hosts for one of the top of table clashes of the season. The weather conditions were generous and the venue (Stirling University) was full of rugby as there was a Touch Rugby Festival happening that day. Hillfoots XV arrived and prepared psychologically for the game, whereas their counterparts seemed a little more underprepared. The first half began, and both teams started to test each other’s defensive systems. Hillfoots breached the Stirling line defense on a couple of occasions in the first half with some well organized and high velocity plays. The hosts only managed to score a penalty kick. 
The second half began with the same approach from Hillfoots and the tries began to come a more easily as the Home team defensive line could not contain the visitors for more than 3-4 phases of play. The final score ended up 55-3 to Hillfoots. Now, they prepare for another top of table clash away at Blairgowire RFC.

Could it have got any wetter?

The Junior section visited the home of McLaren in Callander on Sunday. In spite of the torrential rain, we had a number of players from p3, 4, 5 and 6. We were able to field mixed age teams and were successful at p4/5 with the other teams also enjoying positive results. Many thanks to the players who turned out and of course to the parents who braced the conditions, we could not do this without you!!
 

Youth take on Kinross with Falkirk 

The Youth section combined with Falkirk RFC in our first collaboration at S1 and S2 level, taking on our old rivals Kinross RFC.  While it was not as wet as Callendar, the conditions were far from ideal, yet the boys all stuck in and enjoyed the match.  The big question is whether we should be Falfoots or Hillkirk?
 

This weekend’s Action:

Saturday:

  • 1st XV: Away to Blairgowrie, with a 3pm kick off.  Check Facebook for timings and bus seat availability – it promises to be a cracking match!

Sunday:

  • Tigers (P1 & P2): Home training 1000-1130.
  • Juniors (P3 to  P7): The juniors welcome Lenzie RFC this weekend, with combined teams at all levels from P3 to P7.  Please meet in Tilly Park at 1000 for a 1030 kick off.
  • Mums & Dads:  Please help out and renew the Club’s reputation for great hosting again this season with your home baking, teas and coffees.  Many hands make light work! 
  • Youth (S1-S2):  The Youth (S1 and S2) are playing with Falkirk against Glenrothes RFC away.  Please meet up there (KY7 5AH) at 1045 for an 1100 warmup and 1130 kick off.
