What a cracking weekend of rugby – the Firsts christened their smart new tops with a 110-14 win over Panmure and the Rams were victorious in the local derby at Alloa, winning 51-7. Not only that, but our Youth team hosted Falkirk S1/S2s for a combined training session and match, as the Tigers trained in the Park. Meanwhile in Glasgow, the rest of the Junior Club had a cracking day away playing Accies and GHK.

Hillfoots 1st XV
Saturday 15th Sept set up to be a great day for rugby, as the weather was cool but sunny, with Hillfoots 1st XV hosting Panmure RFC. The Hillfoots XV started the game well and scored a couple of early tries and the visitors responded with their own 2 tries. The visitors contested well in the first 20 minutes of the game, which took the host team by surprise. As the game continued, Hillfoots started to break through the defensive line on a couple more of occasions and started to stretch Panmure even more, before the end of the half. At half time the score comfortable reflected the possession the home team had.
The second half saw Hillfoots capitalise on the visitors’ defensive mistakes and the first 20mins of the half saw the hosts playing fast and expansive rugby and putting a few more tries past the visitors without a reply. The game ended well and it was a great game to watch for the home spectators, the game ended 110-14. Hillfoots XV are now preparing for a short away trip to Stirling County 3’s.
The Rams
The Rams took the short trip along to Alloa for the first local derby of the season on Saturday.
The match started at a frantic pace with both sides looking to take an early advantage. It was Alloa who opened the scoring with a well taken penalty goal. The Rams retaliated with some probing attacks and were asking questions of the home defence. Centre Jack McClymont finished off a great move when he scored a try near the Alloa posts. Gregor Manson landed the conversion. As the half wore on it was end to end stuff but it was Hillfoots who scored again when McCymont grabbed his second try of the game and take the Rams into half time with a 12 – 3 lead.
The second half got under way in much the same manner as the first with both sides looking to attack at every opportunity. The Hillfoots lads were more clinical in their finishing an extended their lead through tries from Brendan McNulty and Alex Cameron, Manson added 1 conversion. The home side’s efforts were rewarded when they scored a converted try of their own. The Rams went on to seal the game with tries from Barry Munro, Callum Murray and another from Cameron. Manson added another conversion. Alloa scored another converted try as the match drew to a close.
This was a good performance by the Rams and will hopefully stand them in good stead when they travel to Howe of Fife next Saturday.
Thanks to Lynne and her staff for yet another fantastic Club Lunch prior to the game and the players’ food after the match. You really can’t beat £15 for a 3 course meal and wine in such great company… By all accounts it’s Dav’s turn to buy a bottle of port for the next lunch!
