Hillfoots currently operate two senior XV’s plus a veterans’ team, The Cast Tups, for over 35’s (or anyone who’s generally clapped-out).  The 1st XV currently plays in Caledonia Division 2.  Having won Caledonia Division 2 in 2014-15 the club is hoping to use this experience and gain promotion back into Caledonia Division 1. This will ultimately help Hillfoots gain promotion back to the National Leagues by keeping our very talented squad over the next couple of seasons.  The 2nd XV play in Midlands Division 2 but were recently league Div 1 league champs in 2011-12.

The 1st and 2nd XV squads train together on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, enjoying the advantages of the all weather floodlit pitches at Alva Academy during the worst of the winter months.  We have a young but talented group although the average age is increased by one or two old timers who still have a few more seasons in their legs!  Our established players are kept on their toes each season by the latest influx from our successful U18’s squad.

 1st XV

The 1st XV play a fast, skillful and exciting style of rugby. We are an ambitious club on and off the field. The aim for this season and for the seasons ahead is for each of our teams to win their league and to do so by playing a brand of rugby that’s exciting to watch and fun to play.

2nd XV

Not as good looking as the 1st XV and not old enough to be Cast Tups, limbo.  However, at Hillfoots, the 2nd XV are not to be sniffed at!  They were league winners in 2011-12, and are looking forward to the new season as many of the squad will be graduating up the rugby ladder from our U18 squads.

Cast Tups

Cast-Tups

Older limbs and aching backs are lubricated by a dash of pitchside Port (or Nurse McReedy’s surgical bruise lotion – tangy on the tastebuds!).  This bunch of old buggers are still capable of a quick dash around the field & the odd scrum or two provided they aren’t too worse for wear following their weekly catch up in the clubhouse every second Friday on the month.

Generably uncoachable as far as rugby is concerned, they remain an enigma to all but their wives & partners who let them off the leash for a good leg stretch on match days.  The very keen can train on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7pm.  This involves a friendly & lively touch game for an hour or so.

Girls’ Rugby

We have a number of girls in the P1 – P7 age group who currently enjoy playing rugby at Hillfoots.  However, we would like to encourage more girls to take up the sport.  We are developing plans which we hope will achieve this aim.

Note – during the winter months of December to February, the Adults & Youths train outdoors on the floodlit 3G pitches at Alva Academy and the Juniors train indoors at Alva Academy
