The RBS 6 Nations 2012 Trophy Tour will be making its first stop at Hillfoots RFC where club members and local rugby fans are invited to come along and meet Scottish rugby legends, Chris Paterson and Andy Nicol. The event took place on Monday the 23rd January between 6pm and 8pm at Hillfoots RFC.
Hillfoots RFC were named RBS Club of the Month for October which is one of many reasons why they were chosen as the first destination for the RBS 6 Nations Trophy Tour 2012. Not only has their performance on the pitch been of the highest standard, the club’s youth section has also improved tremendously in recent years.
The RBS Trophy Tour aims to reward rugby clubs which have been performing well in their respective leagues as well as recognise the work they do in their local communities and to support the game at club level.
In an effort to generate maximum support and enthusiasm during the RBS 6 Nations the RBS Trophy Tour will be visiting five other rugby clubs which are – Musselburgh RFC (9th February), Howe of Fife RFC (17th February), Aberdeenshire RFC (18th February), Preston Lodge (22nd February) and GHK RFC (23rd February).
On the 23rd of January at Hillfoots RFC, members of the local community and rugby fans are invited to come along to take part in a Q&A session with Andy Nicol and Chris Paterson. They will be sharing their unique experiences at the highest level of the game. Fans will also have the chance to get even closer to the action and get the opportunity to have their photo taken with the famous RBS 6 Nations Trophy.
RBS became the Principal Partner of Scottish Rugby in 2011 and has, over the past year, worked closely with the governing body to grow the game at a community and grassroots level through the RBS Club Rugby support programme and the RBS RugbyForce initiative. Last week they announced Chris Paterson as the new captain of the RBS Rugby Club. The initiative, the first of its kind in Scotland, helps more customers benefit directly from the partnership with Scottish rugby while at the same time enhances support and awareness of the game in Scotland.
Colin Thomson, Head of Community Rugby at Scottish Rugby, commented:
“Club rugby is the lifeblood of the Scottish game and Hillfoots RFC were selected for the RBS 6 Nations 2012 Trophy Tour because of their passionate support of rugby at levels of the game. With the great season they are having accompanied by their excellent youth set up, the club fully deserve Scottish Rugby’s and RBS’ support. This is why they have been chosen as the first destination of the tour.”
Peter Norman, Hillfoots RFC Club President, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen to host the first event of the RBS 6 Nations Trophy Tour 2012. It is a real honour and testimony to the work the club has done and how we have performed this season.”
Peter MCarthy, Managing Director for RBS Branch Banking, said:
“As passionate supporters of the RBS 6 Nations we know that this time of year is the highlight in every rugby fan’s calendar. We are playing our part by giving Scottish fans the chance to get up close and personal with their rugby heroes and the famous RBS 6 Nations Trophy.
The tour is also about recognising the integral role which club rugby plays across Scotland in the development of the game. We are looking forward to getting on the road and meeting the club members, fans and volunteers that work tirelessly to support rugby at this level.”
