A look back over the Year

2017 has been a great year and 2018 promises to be even better!  What a great series of Autumn Internationals and an unbeaten Warriors in the Pro-14 (Let’s ignore the European Cup!).  On the Club front, the 1st XV are second in the League with probably the league decider on the 6th of Jan – it would be great to see you all down in the Park to support them.  Our 2nd XV, the Rams are managing to fulfil most of their fixtures and maintain a positive and fun attitude in the face of some teams not playing in the spirit of a developmental league.  The Youth squad, playing with Falkirk as Hillkirk are enjoying their rugby and developing well both as a squad and as individual players.  Last but by no means least, the Juniors through to Tigers continue to thrive – we have been lucky with the weather, fingers crossed for more fun in the Park in the New Year.  Finally, socially there has been something on for everyone at the Club, from live music to gin tasting and not forgetting our Christmas Jumper Party this Saturday from 5pm!  Hope you all have a great Christmas and a cracking New Year!

Bad Weather and Cancellation Notices

Fingers crossed that the weather will be kind for this weekend and the next!  Thereafter we will be in Alva Academy where we won’t be too hampered by the weather.

In general we will always try to have some form of training – snow is not an issue, it is more with frost that means no contact and difficulties with studs not getting a grip.  Please ensure that the kids have loads of layers – hats, gloves are all good!

We will endeavour to tweet, post updates on Facebook and if possible also send out a Mailchimp email too!

The mid-week Youth training at the club has seen the boys really improve in the past few weeks and hopefully have developed new skills to take on the rugby pitch.  I have enjoyed sharing one of my other passions with the boys and I hope they all had great fun learning some new skills while testing their fitness.

                    Last week at Hillfoots
Another great Sunday at Hillfoots last weekend.  With our motto of ‘everyone plays’  – all our great players and coaches joining together for fun in the park.  we saw some outstanding concentration from our tigers lasting the duration of the session, as well as silky handling and footwork on display from our players across the board.

One tigers deserves a special mention to Robert Kelly exhibited model sportsmanship as he handed every player their tags back and even picked up the fallen ones to hand to the coaches – well done on your awesome hooker throw your dad would be very proud!

Barry
The youth players enjoyed some martial art pad work along with other drills and exercises.  This cross training is not only very fun but also great for improving their coordination, reaction time, timing as well as a trust for their partners they are working with  even promotes team work.  I am glad they love it as much as I do!

We train every Tuesday from 630 to 8pm.

                    Last week at Hillfoots
When its the holidays, with large numbers of kids and coaches away, we will play tag rugby to keep everyone’s skills honed!  Our approach is that ‘Everyone plays’ whether you be the youngest P1, or the oldest grandparent!  We started with a massive game of ‘Hawick Ball’ where you can throw the ball forward (easier for the P1s) and then we went into a proper game.  The smaller kids are definitely at an advantage, they are like slippery little elvers and because they are so close to the ground, its hard for the adults to get their tags!

We then split for the youngest kids to play ‘sharks and fishes’ as well as their coaches Susan and Alan attempting to tire them out (not sure that we ever do despite our best efforts!).  This meant that the older kids could play a more competitive game of tag.  The grand finale was the kids against the dads – I am not sure who was more competitive!!
