On Sunday 22 January, the Hillfoots/Bannockburn U-15 team travelled to Falkirk and played a friendly against their U15 side.
This was the 5th time that our lads had played together in a fixture and the improvement in the team work from the initial training sessions and matches can be seen in every game.
The Forwards showed some excellent work and the offloading from every player could be seen to be a big part of their play. The team’s rucking and ball presentation was excellent with the team repeatedly producing excellent ball for the scrum half. The scrummaging was also extremely good and with the side winning the majority of its own ball and also driving the Falkirk Pack on a few occasion. The line out was a lottery with a strong wind making the throwing quite difficult.
The Backs had a difficult game with an exceptionally quick and well drilled back division from the Falkirk side posing many problems. In particular, Falkirk’s outside centre was very strong and he scored a number of tries in the match. The Hillfoots/Bannockburn lads did have their moments producing a try and having 3 or 4 other chances, however excellent cover tackling and a few dropped balls prevented the side taking more of the chances. Problems were also created by the Falkirk backs constantly straying offside in the stand off and centre position and at the edges of the breakdown. This however was picked up by the referee.
The final score of 46-5 in no way reflected how well the lads performed in the match and how good they performed.
