Injuries & a weakened squad see 1st XV defeated in the Caledonia Shield by Aberdeen University

Hillfoots 5 – 32 St Andrews University

Hillfoots exited the Caledonia Shield at the hands of the students at St Andrews on Saturday.  With six changes due to injuries, this was always going to be a tough challenge.  Things got off to a bright start for the visitors.  The forwards drove deep into the ’22 and after a couple of drives for the line, were awarded a 5 metre scrum.  Going for the pushover the students collapsed and ‘Foots were awarded a penalty.  Hillfoots opted for the scrum, Gregor Manson picked and went blind, feeding Eric Hewitt to touch down.  This was to be last bright spot in Hillfoots’ afternoon. Once the students got in to their stride,  ’Foots struggled to cope with the pace and power of the homeside.  Only some tremendous tackling from Carmichael and man of the match Craig Scott kept the score down.

Hillfoots look forward to a week off before resuming league duty with a home match on the 24 November against Orkney.  Please note this is an early kick off at 10.30.
