Another Great Result for Hillfoots 1sts!

Saturday’s 2nd preseason for the Men’s Senior Squad took place on a blustery, damp Saturday afternoon at the foot of the Ochills.  Hillfoots RFC played host to Lenzie RFC who made the trip up to Tillicoultry from Kirkintilloch for the afternoon.  The game was played in fine spirit and both sets of players approached the proceedings with the usual verve and gusto associated with preseason friendlies.

A tight first half saw ‘Foots turn 14-7 up with the battle of the gain line proving significant in the slippery conditions.  A sound performance from the home side’s front eight laid the foundation for some smart territorial gains and on the back of some good defence, we capitalised with two long range tries ‘up the hill’.  The visitors, not to be outdone, worked well to secure some loose possession and scored an attractive breakaway try of their own to end the first half well in the game.

With the weather showing signs of improvement for the 2nd half, the home team upped the ante and through further set piece dominance and some accurate strike running from the three quarters produced a further five tries, all converted to end proceedings 42-7 to the good.  Credit must be given to Lenzie, who worked hard throughout and but for some scrambling ‘Foots defence could have secured an additional score or two to add to their first half effort.

In all, a good day out and some “refreshments” shared by both sets of players in the Clubhouse underlined the spirit in which the game was played.  Many thanks to Derek Young – the Referee on the day, without whom we couldn’t have proceeded.
