Hillfoots Junior Section held their end of season awards presentaion on Sunday 13 May.  The awards are an annual celebration of players’ commitment & respect of the spirit & laws of the game of rugby.  There are awards given for each of the year groups from U6 (P1) to U18 (S6).  The awards were given to individuals who had upheld the Club’s values of friendship, integrity & commitment.  The catagories are Player of the Year, Runner Up Player of the Year,  Most Improved Player & Player with the most future potential.

On Saturday 5 May the Club held its Annual Dinner Dance & Awards at the Devonvale Hall.  It was a great evening – good food, good bar, good company & some great dancing to Ash Pan Jacks!

Strathedrick RFC Mini Charity Festival

This weekend our Mini Section is away at Strathendrick RFC for their Central Festival extravaganza! This event is the last competitive game of the season & one not to miss!  See you Sunday.

On Saturday the award winning Hillfoots U18′s hosted Alloa U18′s Division 2 Midlands Caledonia Youth League showdown.  The U18′s have been on a good run of form and had been recently testing their skills in a friendly match against visitors on tour from Colwyn Bay, Wales.  On Saturday, a squad of 26 players turned up hoping to get a game!

The match against Alloa was extremely tight and the score line was 0 – 0 at half time.  However, two tries were scored in the second half by Alex & Sandy respectively which secured Hillfoots the position of League Champions.  A fantastic effort from all the players & coaches Colin Wright, Muff Scobie & JP Ward.

Now that the 2011/12 Adult Section playing season is coming to an end, the Club has some great summer events to look forward to.  Come along & stay involved with Hillfoots RFC all year long!

The Junior Section continue to train & play games/festivals every Sunday until Sunday 13 May which is the Junior Section Annual Awards Day

We also expect to run a session of Junior fun, games & rugby on Monday evenings throughout the summer.  5pm until 7pm at the Club.   All welcome.

Hillfoots welcomed Glenrothes RFC to the Public Parks at Tillicoultry.  HRFC’s unbeaten at home since 2010 record stood as they won 56 – 24.

A minute’s silence was held before kick off to remember Hillfoots life member & former Captain Bob Dewar who sadly passed away 2 weeks ago.

Tries were scored by Robbie Hogg (twice), Andrew Hamilton, Iain Nicolson, Gregor McIntosh (hat-trick), David Cree, Sandy Penman, Gavin Paterson.

Man of the Match was awarded to Sandy Penman who achieved a personal best try tally of 14 throughout this season.  A great end to his 11 year Senior career at Hillfoots.

 A quote from the Scotsman – April 2001!!….”Penman is still to announce his decision on where he’ll play next season, but though only 29, the demands of full-time work, travelling to Edinburgh for training three times a week and a baby due in August are making him consider a return to his local Hillfoots club. However, he remains confident the club will quickly fill the gaps left by himself and Stark, and the others departing.  He said: “I remember the first year I was at Boroughmuir, we lost a few players to the professional teams, and it was hard to replace them, but we’ve now got our reputation as a good, strong club back, so I don’t think the rebuilding process will be as hard as some think.  After becoming a victim of the merger of Caley Reds and Glasgow, the battle-hardened prop left Meggetland himself three years ago to try his luck as a pro with Le Creusot in the east of France, and his coach Sean Lineen is one who feels he came back a better player.  Penman said: “Looking back, that was a tremendous opportunity and very worthwhile.  I definitely feel I improved, although it’s for others to judge what effect I had when I came back and we got promoted back to Division1.”"

Andy Nicol and Chris Patterson, former Scottish Rugby Internationalists, visited HRFC as part of the official Tour of the RBS 6 Nations Trophy.  During their visit they auctioned a rugby ball signed by the Scottish Rugby Team to raise funds for a local charity.

Pat Norman won the bid for the ball and she has since donated £300 to a local charity, Frontline Families, based in Tillicoultry.  Frontline Families is a UK charity offering support and assistance to children, including local children,  in difficult family situations.
