Family Friendly Summer Tag Rugby back again this Friday!

Family Friendly Summer Tag Rugby

Our summer series of fortnightly family friendly tag rugby continues this Friday evening at 6pm.  We will play till about 7:15pm and then retire to the Clubhouse for a BBQ.

  • It embodies our Club motto ‘Everybody plays’ – so everyone from 4 to 84 whether boy, girl, mum, dad, granddad or even grandma can play!

  • It’s also a great way to start the weekend – a BBQ (so no washing up dishes!) and perhaps a beer or two from the bar (adults only!).  It’s a bring your own/self-service BBQ – so bring whatever you want to eat and you can cook it on the Club’s BBQ.

Get some practice in before the Charity Sevens Tournament on 10 June!

Fingers crossed for good weather – see you tomorrow!

Junior Tour to Yorkshire a great success!

Players and officials from Hillfoots RFC are beaming with pride after successfully beating four junior teams from Yorkshire club Aireborough RFC last weekend.  The Club has taken boys from P6, P7, S1 and S2 age groups to Yorkshire for the past six years, but this year was the best yet!  Paddy Sherrard, the Junior Convenor for the Club arranged the matches against Aireborough RFC through an old school friend who now lives in Leeds.  Paddy said:

“The highlight of the Junior Season is our tour to Yorkshire – it’s a great mix of fun, education and rugby.  On the Saturday, the kids loved visiting Leeds Armouries in the morning before we challenged their head for heights and raft building.  On the Sunday we were royally hosted by Aireborough Rugby Club, the kids will not forget being welcomed by a large crowd and the skirl of the pipes!”

Aireborough’s piper piped both the teams onto the pitch where the kids stood proudly as the national anthems were played before playing a series of Sevens matches.  The Hillfoots players, set to playing and being more used to the Sevens game started to pile on the points, but the locals were not to be completely brow beaten and they also managed to score some great tries too.  However, just like our national Sevens team later that afternoon at Twickenham, the Scots were victorious.

Afterwards, players, coaches and families from both clubs joined together to enjoy a barbecue and live music in the car park at Nunroyd Park.  Matt Smith, chair of Aireborough’s junior section, said the club was thrilled at how the day had gone.  He commented:

“Hillfoots are a first class outfit, on and off the field, and it was a pleasure to welcome them to Nunroyd Park.  It was the first time in our history that we hosted a junior touring club and I am proud that we rose to the challenge.  Most importantly, many new friendships were forged and that it was rugby is all about.”

Youth Training

Our youth training will resume at Tilly Park this Friday.  Come along for the Tag at 6pm, or turn up for 7pm when Ian Hamilton our Senior Coach will lead a session focussed on skills, strength and conditioning.  The session will only last until 7:45 – meanwhile mum or dad can join in the fun at the Club house!  You can then join the BBQ and get a free burger/hot dog.

The plans for next season will start with pre-season training alongside the Senior Club from 20th June and will run every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm.  We will do the same training, but obviously will do any contact within our age bands.  Find out more on Friday!

Hillfoots Annual Tour to Yorkshire

Building on the incredible success of the past five seasons, we’re delighted to announce that we are in the final stages of planning for our tour this year . Full details are below, so please register your interest by email on this link.

What?

This year, we will be playing Aireborough RFC in Leeds!  We will be staying in the excellent Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre again for the Friday and Sat nights. The structure of the weekend is planned in outline as follows:

Fri 1 May

  • 4pm assemble in the clubhouse, 4.30 depart in bus to Carlton Minniot
  • Dinner on the way at Tebay Services
  • Arrive around 9pm, bed by 10pm!

Sat 2 May – all day

  • Morning – We will vote on whether to re-visit the excellent Leeds Armoury; or visit York and the National Railways Museum!
  • Afternoon – a range of team building and challenging activities during this day at the centre, focussing on team building, creative thinking and communication, including the Outdoor assault course, zipwires and the legendary raft building and race!!
  • Evening Entertainment – Kangaroo Court….

Sun 3 May – morning

  • Matches start at 10am
  • BBQ festival lunch
  • Leave at 2pm
  • Arrive at the Clubhouse around 6-7pm

Who?

This tour has a maximum of 30 places in total available, as a result, we are limiting this tour to P6, P7 and S1 age groups only at this stage.  There may be some places available for S2 players if they want to go for a fourth year nearer the time!

How much?

We have secured a really great deal with the centre and hope to keep the cost of the tour to £150 again this year, this will be finalised by 31 March.  This will cover the cost of a tour top, the coach throughout the tour, the B&B accommodation costs for the two nights, including a packed lunch on both days and dinner on the Saturday evening as well as the afternoon’s activities at the Centre.  The best way to pay is by electronic transfer, the bank details for the club is Sort Code:82-68-17 and Account Number 00037235 (it is the Clydesdale Bank in Tillicoultry).  Can you please make sure you put the following in the reference ‘JT-your surname’ in the reference (eg for me it would be ‘JT-Sherrard’).

Please reserve your place with a £50 deposit, payable by 31 March 2015, with final payment due by 24 April 2015.

This is our biggest fund raising day of the year – we need your help, so please Mums and Dads:

Youth, Juniors and Tigers Back at Hillfoots

Every age group will be at normal training from 1000-1130

Madras apologise for not having the numbers available to properly visit us and hope to re-schedule later this season.  From their P7 coach:
“We would really appreciate if you could let them know that it would have been great to have gone along, as our last match with them was just super! It was really played in the spirit in which rugby should be played – a nice bunch of kids!”

Fingers crossed that the weather will keep the ground from freezing.  Unless there is a very hard frost combined with freezing temperatures, training will be on!  We can avoid any contact and tackling, but there are plenty of skills that we can focus on!  If there is no message on the club’s facebook page by 0930, training is definitely on!

Great win for Hillfoots RFC U14 v Kirkcaldy U14, 50-5

Well done to the U14s who last week beat a very spirited Kirkcaldy side 50-5.  Despite the quagmire and a slight drizzle that made the ball a bar of soap, both sides tried to play an open and fluid game.  Hillfoots came out on top, by maintaining a great attacking shape and demonstrating true grit and determination in defence.  It was great to see the boys from both Academies play so well together – hopefully, we will be able to exploit their success next season when we aim to play both a U15 and a U14 side.

Dates for the Diary:

19 of February

  • Tigers and Youth – Home Training back at Tillicoultry park training times 1000 – 1130.
  • Junior Section – Not on the fixture list – Away to a festival at the Howe of Fife (Cupar).

December 2016

Weekly Junior Information for 4 December 2016

BLUF:

We will have one last outdoor training session this year!

Everyone training in Tilly Park from 1000-1130.

Free mince pies to go with teas and coffees for the Mums and Dads.

Apologies for changing our minds! We will have one last outdoor training session for the year, for a number of reasons:

We can achieve much more on grass than inside (especially for the older age groups).

It’s a warm weekend! And having missed a beautiful Sunday morning last week, we can take the risk and hope that the weather forecasters are on the button!

Hiring the Academy (inside and Astro) is expensive.

Lastly, (and yes, I admit it, the real reason) there was a mix up with the booking time with the Council, which was identified too late to rectify – apologies!

We will definitely be in the Academy next week!

The new rugby shirts have finally arrived and very smart they look too!

Everyone who ordered a top has it put aside – please come and try it on first thing, in case we need to swap sizes!

Also, we ordered some spares! So if your player has had a growing spurt, or you are looking for a wonderful Christmas present, please pop to the Blue Tent.

Kids shirts are £35 and adult sizes are £40.

Get into the Christmas spirit!

Everyone is welcome at our annual Christmas shindig tonight at 1700 in the Clubhouse! Warm up with few festive drinks and join us for an evening with Kieran Fisher Music as we head into the winter break. Horrendous Christmas jumpers not compulsory, but wholeheartedly encouraged.
